A Nebraska man has been taken into custody after allegedly attempting to enter occupied vehicles traveling near Coral Ridge Mall.
Police say 30-year-old Manuel Galdamez Franco ran into the middle of the street on Coral Ridge Avenue near its intersection with 2nd Street at 5pm Monday and attempted to get into a vehicle. The occupants pulled him out of their vehicle as he reportedly continued trying to get in.
Galdamez Franco then ran to another vehicle and jumped into the vehicle through the driver’s side window. He then allegedly began biting the driver of the vehicle, causing pain and marks on her arm. He continued to assault the driver, and attempted to change the gear on the vehicle. She tried to drive away, but Galdamez Franco reportedly grabbed her hair and held on until he pulled a portion of her hair out of her head.
During the alleged assaults, Galdamez Franco obstructed vehicles traveling in the roadway headed north on Coral Ridge Avenue.
He was arrested and charged with 1st degree Burglary, Assault causing Bodily Injury, and Obstructing Traffic. If convicted on all counts, Galdamez Franco could be sentenced to up to 27 years in prison.
