An Iowa City man was arrested over the weekend after an alleged assault on the mother of his child at a downtown bar.
Police say the incident occurred at approximately 12:50am Sunday at the Tequila Cowgirl Bar on South Gilbert Street. 29-year-old Arturio Henderson of Western Road approached the victim and started arguing with her. During the interaction, Henderson reportedly grabbed the woman by the arms and started pulling and pushing her, leaving her with visible bruising. He also allegedly struck her in the head with a closed fist, leaving a visible bump.
A check of Henderson’s criminal record showed a previous Domestic Assault conviction from 2017. He was charged with a second offense, a Class D felony punishable by a prison term of up to five years.
A no-contact order was requested between the two parties, and granted by Judge Jason Burns.
