City of Iowa City news release
Work on the Sycamore Greenway began on Nov. 3, 2025, and is expected to last through Spring 2026. The trails will remain open, but visitors should expect to see crews working for the duration of the project.
This project is funded with a $200,000 grant from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources’ Resource Enhancement and Protection (REAP) program and will be used for the following improvements:
- Removal of a woody species in the stormwater collection network.
- Enhancement of the native prairie plantings.
- Addition of a native shrub buffer planting.
- The replacement and addition of park benches.
- The addition of bike fix-it stations.
These improvements will help restore the Sycamore Greenway’s stormwater infrastructure capacity, enhance the wildlife habitat, and improve trailside offerings for recreationists using this popular trail.
A map of the park improvements can be found on our website.
