Seven Popeyes Chicken restaurants in Eastern and Central Iowa are currently in negotiations with their parent company after they were accused of operating without a franchise agreement.
Back in September Popeye’s filed a federal lawsuit against Jam Equities…which owns Popeyes locations in Coralville, Cedar Rapids, Waterloo, Dubuque, and Des Moines…because the company allegedly continued to operate the five restaurants despite the Popeyes corporation terminating the contracts. Popeyes says it warned the locations as early as last year that they were failing to operate to company standards regarding safety and brand quality. The warnings reportedly went unanswered, and all five contracts were terminated.
But KCRG TV-9 reports a court filing filed on Monday asks for an extension in the case as the two sides are currently working out a deal that would avoid court intervention altogether. The filing says the two sides are “cautiously optimistic” that a deal can be reached.
