John Colloton, a former chief executive for the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics and Vice President for statewide health services, died Friday in Iowa City at the age of 94.
The Mason City native began working at the UIHC…now known as UI Health Care…in the late 1950’s. He worked his way up to director in 1971, and during his tenure was instrumental in transforming the UIHC from a simple indigent care referral facility to a tertiary and quaternary care facility, teaching and research hospital, and health care resource for patients across the state and region. The UIHC John Colloton Pavilion was named in his honor.
The full story of Colloton’s life and contributions to the growth of UIHC can be found here.
