The Johnson County Metro Bomb Squad removed a hand grenade from an Iowa City residence Monday night.
A post on the Iowa City Public Safety Facebook page says Iowa City Police responded to a report of suspicious activity after a grenade with the pin still intact was located inside a home. Officers secured the scene and the bomb squad responded. The bomb squad confirmed the grenade was real, but fortunately, rendered inert. After x-raying the grenade to be absolutely certain, the bomb squad took custody of the grenade.
The photo included with the post shows a grenade with a hole at the bottom, indicative of a training or dummy grenade.
