The State of Iowa has no hospitals with an A grade in a recent safety report issued by an independent nonprofit group.

CBS2 reports the Leapfrog Group looks at two categories in their study. The first category looks at infrastructure, technology and ICU staffing among other things. The second category sees outcome measures by observing things that can happen to a patient in their hospital room or be the result of a surgery.

The Leapfrog survey looked at 30 hospitals in Iowa, with CHI Health Mercy in Council Bluffs getting the best rating in the state, a B. 15 other hospitals got a C grade, and 11 got D’s. Three facilities got an F, including Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, Genesis Medical Center in Davenport and UnityPoint Health Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge.

A spokesperson for Mercy Cedar Rapids said that they don’t participate in the survey, and shared that not participating earns you a low score automatically.

Alexandra Campione, program manager for Leapfrog, said North Dakota, Wyoming and Vermont also have no hospitals with an A grade.
