Mobile home residents in parks owned by Havenpark Communities are still working out details on a promised future face-to-face meeting.

The Press-Citizen reports Johnson County leaders are pressing Havenpark  for an open meeting, while Havenpark  prefers  meeting behind closed doors.

The Utah-based group owns Modern Manor, Sunrise Village, Western Hills and Lake Ridge Estates manufactured home parks in Johnson County. They insist a private meeting is the best way to resolve issues like infrastructure repairs, lighting upgrades, and water outages. Residents, many on fixed incomes, say rent hikes and delayed maintenance have made life increasingly difficult, and advocacy groups are preparing to join the conversation.

The meeting is expected to include leaders from Johnson County Residents United, a new group of local manufactured home park residents.

Data from the Iowa Manufactured Home Residents Network shows lot rents at Modern Manor rising from an average of $385 per month four years ago before Havenpark acquired the property to about $520 per month this year.  Rent hikes are similar in the other area parks.

Havenpark Communities’ Senior Vice President of Operations, Jerry Fenstermaker, said the company has already invested millions of dollars in their Johnson County properties.  The newspaper reports residents still say lighting issues and delays in removing potentially hazardous trees have made residents fell unsafe.
