An Iowa City man was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon after trying to get away from police.
25-year-old Breon Holmes of Petsel Place was called in by Coralville Post Office staff for passing fraudulent checks. As an officer approached him, he allegedly got into a Uhaul vehicle with Arizona plates and quickly took off at a high rate of speed around traffic towards Iowa City.
Holmes was apprehended, and a check of his driving status showed him as barred as a habitual offender into July 2027.
Holmes was charged with Eluding and Driving while Barred. If convicted on both counts, he faces up to three years of prison time.
