An Iowa City woman who allegedly stole items from a convenience store reportedly assaulted her boyfriend after he allowed police inside to arrest her.
The incident began at approximately 1:10am Thursday. According to store staff at Maverik on Muscatine Avenue, 33-year-old Rena Socquomore of Southgate Avenue stole items and was recognized by previous interactions. They told officers that she was heading in the direction of Town and Campus Apartments on Arthur Street.
Police attempted to contact her at the residence about the alleged shoplifting and could hear Socquomore and a man arguing over infidelity. The man answered the door for the officer and let him inside. The man then went into the bedroom to tell Socquomore the police were there for her, and she allegedly rushed out of the bedroom, screamed at the man for betraying her, and violently shoved him to the ground in front of the officer.
The arrest report indicates couple cohabitate more often than not and are in an intimate relationship.
Soqcuormoe was charged with 3rd degree Theft due to previous convictions, and 1st offense Domestic Abuse Assault. She faces up to 25 months in jail if convicted on both counts.
A no-contact order was requested between the two parties.
