A Cedar Rapids man faces multiple charges after an incident Wednesday afternoon at a North Liberty convenience store.
Police say 40-year-old Justin Wade of Oakland Road NE entered the Casey’s on Kansas Avenue at around 4:15 and walked right up to an employee who was not paying attention and shoved them to the side. He then allegedly took two bottles of Tito’s Vodka and left without paying.
An employee came outside and tried to take a picture of Wade’s license plate, but he reportedly attempted to run over her. The employee had to dive out of the way, and she fell to her knees, causing pain.
Police arrived and found Wade with a strong odor of consumed alcohol, bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech and erratic behavior. He reportedly refused to provide a breath sample.
Witnesses also stated that Wade had been consuming alcohol.
A check of his driving record showed Wade was barred as a habitual offender into September of next year.
He has been charged with simple Assault, 5th degree Theft, Assault with intent to cause Serious Injury, Public Intoxication, and Driving while Barred. He faces a prison term of over four years if convicted on all counts.
