Iowa City Police have arrested a suspect they say crashed his car into a tree, then ran away from responding officers.
According to arrest records, an officer observed 33-year-old Napolian Johnson of Taylor Drive driving away from Kwik Star on Keokuk Street just after 2:15 Saturday morning despite being revoked from driving. A traffic stop was attempted, and Johnson reportedly sped up, turned down Southgate Avenue, then down Boyrum Street before his 2011 Dodge Durango left the road and hit a tree near Boyrum and Olympic Court. Police say Johnson then left the vehicle and ran past the Second Act before an officer caught him outside Penske Truck Rental.
Johnson is charged with Operating While Intoxicated – 2nd Offense, Driving While Revoked, Failure to Maintain Control, and Interference With Official Acts. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of over three years in jail.
