A Wellman man accused of trying to entice a minor for sex acts has reached a plea deal.
Iowa City Police say between October of 2024 and March of 2025 37-year-old Nelson Overholt of Circle Drive had communications with a subject he believed to be a girl under the age of 16. Overholt allegedly stated he wanted to engage in sex acts with the girl and reportedly sent the recipient nude photos and photos of his genitalia.
Overholt arrived at a predetermined location in March with the reported intention of going to the girl’s house to engage in a sex act. Instead, waiting police arrested Overholt and charged him with Enticing a Minor and Telephone Dissemination of Obscene Material to a Minor. If convicted on both counts, Overholt would have faced a maximum of seven years in prison.
Online records show Overholt reached a plea deal earlier this week. Details are not listed. Sentencing is set for January 29th.
