A probation violation has been reported against a Linn County man convicted on weapons charges in Johnson County.
Cedar Rapids Police arrested 24-year-old Trevon Stephenson of Hiawatha on Monday for Assault Causing Bodily Injury and 4th Degree Criminal Mischief after he reportedly choked a woman into unconsciousness and broke her cellphone. Stephenson was given three years of probation in 2023 after he pleaded guilty to charges of Person Ineligible to Carry Dangerous Weapons, Unauthorized Possession of Offensive Weapons and Possession of a Controlled Substance. Coralville Police say they found Stephenson trespassing at an apartment building on Boston Way in June of 2023. Stephenson reportedly showed signs of intoxication, had 18 grams of what was believed to be marijuana on his person, and was in possession of a firearm.
If convicted on the new charges, Stephenson faces a maximum of two years in jail.
