A Hope House inmate is accused of smuggling methamphetamine into the facility.

Staff at the Coralville halfway house report doing a search of the room of 56-year-old Bryce Peterson at about 5:30 on the night of December 12th. They say they located a clear plastic baggie containing a white powdery substance on Peterson’s nightstand next to several of his belongings. Peterson reportedly admitted the substance was meth, and that he had been using it daily for the last three weeks.

Peterson is now charged with Possession of Contraband in a Correctional Institution, a Class D felony punishable by a maximum of five years in prison.

Peterson was sentenced to the Holiday Road facility earlier this year after he was convicted of  domestic abuse for a 2022 incident at the Town & Campus Apartments on Arthur Street in Iowa City.
