The Johnson County Sheriff’s Department has stationed a deputy at the County Administration Building during business hours.
The Gazette reports Sheriff Brad Kunkel said conversations with the Board of Supervisors about a law enforcement presence in the administration building began after some county employees expressed concerns about safety at work.
Kunkel said that while the county does get calls for service to the building, the move is a proactive step to support staff safety rather than a response to an influx of calls at the building. He said the presence of law enforcement lets staff feel that much safer.
The deputy will stay primarily in the administration building rather than travel back and forth to the Health and Human Services building, connected by a skywalk. Some Supervisors expressed concerns about having a uniformed officer at the HHS building, which residents use for a variety of needs.
