An Iowa City man was taken into custody on a warrant stemming from a domestic abuse charge last month.

Officers were called to the Teeters Court residence of 35-year-old Rontavius Farmer at around 2:45 am November 16th. The victim, who is Farmer’s intimate partner, alleged that he grabbed her by the collar of her hoodie, pinned her against a wall, and struck her on the side of her head, causing pain. Visible injuries reportedly included bruising and scratches to the left side of her neck.

Farmer also allegedly held the woman down on the ground and prevented her from leaving the residence by repeatedly grabbing her and blocking the door.

A warrant was issued, and Farmer remained at large until Friday evening, when police were called to a fight in progress on the 600 block of George Street. The female victim in this incident told officers that Farmer was in the downstairs bathroom and was reportedly flushing drugs.  Upon contact, Farmer was holding a clear plastic baggie and a clear jar with cannabis inside.

Farmer was taken into custody and charged with 3rd or subsequent marijuana possession, 2nd offense Domestic Abuse Assault, and False Imprisonment.  If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to up to 5 years in prison.

A no-contact order was requested.
