Cedar Rapids man accused of slashing victim with knife

A Cedar Rapids man was arrested Monday morning after allegedly slashing at a victim with a knife.

The incident occurred at a construction site in Coralville at around 10:45am.  According to the police report, 49-year-old Pedro Barboza Moreno of North Towne Court NE removed a utility knife from his person and purposely sliced at the victim’s face.  The victim sustained serious injury to their bottom lip which required sutures to be secured back together.

Barboza Moreno reportedly stated he did this on purpose and knew he was slicing at the victim’s face area.

He also allegedly slashed at the rib area of the victim’s coat, leaving a visible cut to the coat.

The victim has blood on their mouth, lips, and down the front of their shirt and chest.

Barboza Moreno was charged with going armed with intent and willful injury causing bodily injury. If convicted on both counts, he could be sentenced to up to fifteen years in prison.

A no contact order was requested.
