Cedar Rapids Police released the 2025 Crime Stats Report Thursday.

2025 marks a second year of notable declines in shots fired. Shoplifting came down sharply in the past year as well.

Violent Crime dropped against the five-year-average and had only a modest change upward compared to 2024. There were three homicide events in Cedar Rapids in 2025 with four deaths. This compares well to the five-year-average of eight. 2024 still holds as the lowest homicide count in recent history with two incidents and two fatalities.

Rape and Robbery both showed declines compared to 2024 and five-year-average results. Aggravated Assault rose moderately compared to 2024, mostly due to higher reported cases of Domestic Abuse.

Police Chief David Dostal credits many of the recent positive trends in these reports to the dedicated team of officers, investigators, commanders, and civilian staff who work hard every day contributing to making Cedar Rapids a vibrant, welcoming community. He also noted a wave of increasing witness cooperation with officers as they investigate crime. Residents providing helpful information have led to many cases being closed through arrest and prosecution.
