Criminal charges have been filed after an Iowa City woman with dementia was found to be living in squalid conditions.
39-year-old Jamie Lynn Sir was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 2:00 Saturday afternoon. A warrant for Sir’s arrest was issued after police investigated a report of an elderly woman living in poor conditions being yelled at by another woman at the Iowa River manufactured housing community on South Riverside Drive. Officers checked the residence just after 12:15 on the afternoon of December 20th and reportedly found Sir and her mother living in a trailer that had animal waste on the floor and sleeping locations. There was also allegedly feces on the mother’s shoes and pants.
The mother, who suffers from dementia, told employees at a local hospital that she does not want to return to her residence because Sir yells at her.
Sir is now charged with Reckless Elder Abuse. If convicted she faces a maximum of two years in jail.
