The Iowa Secretary of State has approved new districts Johnson County residents will use to vote for the Board of Supervisors.
Under a new law approved last year, the three counties with Regents’ institutions…Johnson, Story, and Black Hawk…will now elect county supervisors by district instead of at-large. All five Johnson County supervisor seats will be on the 2026 Primary and General Election ballots.
The new district map was prepared by the Legislative Services Agency. It was approved by the Johnson County Board of Supervisors on December 23rd, and it received formal approval from Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate last week.
To return to staggered four-year terms in 2028, a random drawing will be conducted to determine initial term lengths. It will take place at Wednesday’s Board of Supervisors Meeting, which is set for 9 a.m. at the Health & Human Services Bldg., 855 S. Dubuque St. in Iowa City. Watch online at bit.ly/jocomeeting.
Candidates must live in the district in which they are running, and voters will only vote for the supervisor representing their district.
More information will be posted on the Johnson County website following the drawing to determine initial term lengths.
