Cedar Rapids man arrested after stolen vehicle pursuit

A Cedar Rapids man faces prison time after reportedly leading officers on a pursuit in a stolen vehicle.

According to a release from the city, Joint Communication Agency Dispatchers received a report of a stolen vehicle at approximately 2:32p.m. Thursday. The vehicle was located at 2:59p.m. near the 1400 block of N St SW and officers initiated a traffic stop.

The driver, later identified as 30-year-old Saivon Sturgeon, led officers on a pursuit that ended near the intersection of Williams Blvd and Edgewood Rd SW at approximately 3:13p.m. Officers used a vehicle boxing tactic to stop the pursuit.

Two squad cars and the stolen vehicle sustained damage, but no injuries were reported. Sturgeon was taken into custody after refusing to exit his vehicle and booked at the Linn County Correctional Center on charges of 1st degree Theft, Eluding, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Reckless Driving, and a number of traffic violations.
