A Cedar Rapids man is accused of stealing almost $1,600 from his Coralville employer, then getting drunk at nearby businesses.

Coralville Police were called to 2510 Corridor Way just before 7:45 Friday night for a welfare check. Arriving officers report finding 33-year-old Garrett Rollins of 38th Street SE, who allegedly showed signs of intoxication and admitted to consuming alcohol. He had a half-empty bottle of alcohol in his backpack and refused breath testing.

Police learned that less than three hours earlier, Rollins had allegedly taken deposit money and cash from his employer, a business at 2515 Corridor Way, and went to other nearby businesses and purchased food and alcohol. The employer, which is not identified in arrest records, claims Rollins stole $1553.66. Stolen money was reportedly found in Rollins’ backpack.

Rollins is now charged with 2nd Degree Theft and Public Intoxication. If convicted, he faces over five years in prison.
