The new Fieldhouse bar on South Clinton Street is remaining open as its owners appeal a 14-day liquor license suspension handed down by the Iowa City City Council. That’s according to a weekend post on the business’s Facebook page.
The bar was granted a liquor license late last year as a restaurant, and as such the license indicated alcohol could only be served on the ground floor. City officials say the business does not operate as a restaurant, and alcohol is being served on three different floors.
The council voted unanimously for the two-week suspension, which city attorneys say should give owner Tracy Barkalow and his partners enough time to transition to a full-time restaurant.
Former management from the Fieldhouse’s original College Street location has told KCJJ that the new location has no official ties to previous incarnations of the business.
