An Iowa City man was arrested last week after an alleged assault on his live in domestic partner.
Officers were called to an address on Eastbury Drive just after 7pm Wednesday for multiple 911 hangups. The phone number came back to 26-year-old Jason Rodas, who police say has a history of domestic abuse.
Upon contact, Rodas said that he and the woman are in a relationship, live together, and having an issue with infidelity. He reportedly confronted the victim in an upstairs bedroom and followed her to the bathroom. The woman stated that she broke a mirror on the counter in an effort to scare Rodas. There allegedly was a struggle over the phone before Rodas reportedly threw the woman to the floor in front of the bathroom.
The victim tried to get out of the bedroom but Rodas allegedly wouldn’t let her. Eventually she went downstairs, where Rodas reportedly grabbed her again and threw her to the ground.
The woman told police she is very fearful of Rodas and suffered a small cut on the bridge of her nose and on her right cheek. Another cut was allegedly observed that she said was caused by Rodas during a previous fight.
Rodas was arrested and charged with Domestic Abuse Assault 3rd or subsequent offense, a Class D Felony punishable by a prison sentence of up to five years if convicted.
