Iowa City Police have arrested a Coralville man in connection with a burglary last fall.

30-year-old Jerome Brooks of 23rd Avenue was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 11:00 Saturday morning. Investigators say on the morning of September 17th Brooks shattered the window of a vehicle in a parking garage on Newton Road and stole a wallet containing money, a debit card, and a credit card. Brooks then allegedly left on the car owner’s Trek bicycle, which was parked in front of the vehicle.

Security video reportedly shows Brooks using one of the stolen cards to purchase items from the North Dubuque Street Casey’s just after 6:15 on the morning of the burglary, then ride off on the stolen bicycle.

Brooks was also wanted for allegedly using stolen credit cards to make purchases at a pair of Iowa City businesses last year, including the Lower Muscatine Road McDonald’s in June and Evergreen Smoke Shop on 1st Avenue in August.

Brooks…who also lists a previous residence at the Town & Campus Apartments on Arthur Street…is now charged with three counts of Unauthorized Use of a Credit Card and one count each of 2nd Degree Theft and 3rd Degree Burglary of a Motor Vehicle – 2nd or Subsequent Offense. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of 16 years in prison.
