Iowa City Regina has canceled classes for today and tomorrow due to what they say is an exceptionally high and rapidly increasing rate of illness.
According to the school’s website, overall PreK-12 there are 248 students absent, which accounts for 23 percent of all students. After consultation with Johnson County Public Health, they decided to cancel classes to slow transmission, protect the health of students and staff, and allow for a deep cleaning of our facilities. School offices will remain open during this time.
All practices and activities are canceled this evening. All practices, and rehearsals are canceled Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Friday and Saturday basketball games will be rescheduled. State Speech will continue as scheduled, as it is an off-campus event with a smaller group and minimal close contact.
Johnson County Public Health guidance emphasizes that students should return only after being fever-free and symptom-free for at least 24 hours without medication.
