A Coralville man on probation faces a slew of new charges, including allegedly using stolen gift cards.
According to court records, 30-year-old Joel Meadows of Spring Rose Circle was arrested on Monday. He was reportedly in possession of six Visa gift cards totaling about $200. He admitted to acquiring them with knowledge that they were stolen, and attempted to use them at a gas station between January 1st and the date of arrest.
Meadows was also allegedly in possession of a check with his name written out on it from a business. The check was signed on the back, but the front had another person’s name on it. Meadows reportedly whited out the name and replaced it with his own.
He also admitted to having drugs and drug paraphernalia in his vehicle. A probable cause search allegedly turned up marijuana, a glass pipe that Meadows said was for meth use, a scale with marijuana residue, and a knife measuring 8 ½ inches.
He has been charged with six counts of Fraud using a Gift Card, Forgery, Person Ineligible to Carry Dangerous Weapons, Marijuana possession, a Controlled Substance violation, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. If convicted on those charges, Meadows could be sentenced to up to over 13 years in prison.
