Two Iowa City robbery suspects from Cedar Rapids will face separate trials.

That was the ruling handed down by Judge Lars Anderson earlier this week in the cases of 21-year-old Andrue Cunningham of 4th Avenue SE and 20-year-old J’Mirrion Walton of Ashton Place NE. The pair is accused of robbing a man outside the Iowa City Public Library at around 1:45 on the morning of June 15th, 2025. The two allegedly got away with the victim’s phone, wallet, and cash. Surveillance video from the area reportedly shows Walton and Cunningham leading the victim toward the library, then running from the area shortly afterward.

Both men are charged with 2nd Degree Robbery. If convicted, they each face a maximum of ten years in prison.

Anderson and Walton each requested that the cases be separated. Case management conferences are set for both men on February 27th.
