A local charge has been dropped in favor of federal charges against a Quad Cities man accused of robbing an Iowa City bank last month.

42-year-old Antoinne Davis of Davenport is accused of entering Hills Bank on Muscatine Avenue on the morning of January 9th with his face covered while wearing gloves and holding a bag. Davis allegedly told two different tellers to give him cash, and reportedly took the money of a customer off of a counter. A total of $14,676 was reported stolen.

A search warrant executed on Davis’ residence reportedly turned up large sums of cash and the clothing the suspect was wearing in video of the robbery.

Davis allegedly admitted to committing the robbery to repay a debt. He has two previous federal robbery convictions, and is still on probation for one of them. The two banks were also on Muscatine Avenue: the former University of Iowa Community Credit Union and the Hills Bank branch he reportedly robbed again last month.

Davis was initially charged with 2nd Degree Robbery in the latest case. If convicted, he would have faced a maximum of ten years in prison. Online records show that charge was dismissed on Tuesday in favor of federal charges.
