A local transient has been arrested as part of an Iowa City porch pirating investigation.

61-year-old Randolph McClaine was taken into custody just before 11:00 Thursday night at the WET shelter on Southgate Avenue. He was allegedly found in possession of a glass pipe which he reportedly said he used to smoke methamphetamine.

McClaine was wanted for an incident that occurred just after 1:15 on the afternoon of February 10th. Police say McClaine stole a package from outside a residence on the 700 block of East Burlington Street. The package contained clothing worth an estimated $139.

McClaine, who has previous theft convictions, is now charged with 3rd Degree Theft and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. If convicted, he faces a maximum of 25 months in jail.
