A construction worker who helped build University of Iowa Health Care’s new North Liberty facility has pleaded guilty to charges he stole equipment while under contract and resold it for profit.
Court records show 56-year-old Kevin Grimm of Tiffin entered a guilty plea to a 1st Degree Theft charge on Monday. University of Iowa Police say Grimm was helping build the new Forevergreen Road facility between January and May of last year when he reportedly stole an estimated $60,000 in equipment and other items and sold them on eBay and Facebook Marketplace. Grimm had an excellent seller rating and allegedly advertised hundreds of stolen items as “new”, selling them at a significant discount.
Among the stolen items were five class two medical devices that can only be legally possessed by FDA-certified physicians, someone being directly supervised by such a physician, or with a prescription from such a physician.
Sentencing is set for June 1st.
