The City of West Liberty has announced it will not be opening Kimberly Park Pool for the 2026 season.
A post of the official City of West Liberty Facebook page says the move was approved by the city council to allow time to fully evaluate long‑term solutions to various issues. City officials say last summer the pool lost approximately 15,000 gallons of water every two days. Despite major repair attempts in recent years, the leaks persisted and began impacting pool infrastructure and nearby private homes, creating additional liability concerns.
The city also cites recent state legislation limiting property tax growth, which has led to a significantly smaller city budget. Also, the city says recruiting and retaining lifeguards has become increasingly difficult in recent years.
