Local firefighters responded to a pair of vegetation fires in southern Johnson County on Monday.
The first blaze was reported just before 11:45 a.m. at 4655 Sharon Center Road, between Hills and Cosgrove. Fire departments from Hills, Lone Tree, and Kalona were all dispatched to an out-of-control grass fire. The fire was extinguished in just over a half-hour.
A second fire was reported just before 8:45 p.m. at 6140 Wapello Avenue between Lone Tree and Nichols. Fire units from Lone Tree and Hills both responded.
The storm system moving through the area on Tuesday should improve the current dry conditions
