An intoxicated transient is accused of assaulting an Iowa City Police officer.

EMS and police were dispatched to the Waterfront Hyvee just after 3:45 Saturday afternoon for an incoherent male. The man in question, 58-year-old Wayne Miller, reportedly showed signs of intoxication and refused treatment and an offer to go to the hospital.

Miller allegedly refused to identify himself. Police say he pushed an officer who was trying to detain him.

Miller is charged with Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations and Public Intoxication. If convicted on both counts, he faces a maximum of 25 months in jail.
