Coralville man charged after failing to comply with sex offender requirements

A Coralville man was arrested over the weekend on a warrant stemming from a sex offender violation.

According to court documents, 47-year-old Anthony Watson is required to register with the Iowa Sex Offender Registry due to a 3rd degree Sexual Abuse conviction in Johnson County back in 2010. He was classified as a Tier 3 offender and is required to appear in person at the Sheriff’s office in the county where he currently resides each January, April, July and October.

On November 4th 2025, a sex offender registry clerk reported that Watson failed to appear in October.

A warrant was issued November 6th; he remained at large until Sunday, when he was taken into custody at the Johnson County Jail. He was charged with a 2nd offense Sex Offender registry violation; if convicted, Watson could face a prison sentence of up to five years.
