More details have been released in a Coralville murder case.

47-year-old James Martin is accused of stabbing his wife, Amber Martin, to death at the couple’s Spring Rose Circle residence on January 16th. Previously released records show Martin had allegedly plotted to kill his wife in the hours leading up to the stabbing. Coralville Police say Martin grabbed a kitchen knife, ambushed his wife as she was walking out of a room, and stabbed her repeatedly. Arriving officers immediately rendered medical aid, but Amber Martin was pronounced dead at the scene.

Newly released records show James Martin’s mother walked in on the stabbing and tried to stop him, but it was too late.

James Martin later reportedly said he killed his wife to “put her out of her misery”. Investigators say the couple was in serious financial trouble and did not believe they could recover.

Martin is charged with 1st Degree Murder. If convicted, he faces life in prison.
