A Coralville man, allegedly upset with his fiancee for not answering the door to her residence after an altercation earlier in the day, is accused of breaking in to make contact with her.

According to police, 44-year-old Enrique Lopez of Boston Way and the woman are engaged, and just before 8:30pm Sunday he attempted to make contact with her at her residence. He reportedly knocked on doors and windows multiple times. Since his fiancee didn’t answer the door, he allegedly entered a four-seasons room and kicked in an exterior door, damaging the door jamb and trim.

A roommate was able to intervene between Lopez and the woman until authorities arrived.

Upon contact, Lopez told police he was there to “do boyfriend and girlfriend things.” The fiancee stated Lopez had thrown her to the ground earlier in the day.

Lopez was taken into custody and charged with Domestic Abuse Assault, 4th degree criminal mischief, and 2nd degree burglary. If convicted on all counts, he faces a prison sentence of up to over 11 years.

A no-contact order was requested between the couple.
