A Davenport man who tried to avoid getting arrested for a driving violation by switching seats with his passenger was charged by Iowa City police Monday morning.

Just after 6:30am, police observed a 2011 Nissan pass by with no front registration plate and an expired registration sticker on the back. A traffic stop was made on 24 year old Jeremiah Daniels of Tremont Avenue, and as the vehicle came to a stop, the officer reportedly saw Daniels and the passenger switch seats.

Upon contact, the female passenger admitted to switching seats, but Daniels refused to admit being the driver.

A check of his driving record showed a barred driving status. He was charged with Interference with Official Acts and Driving while Barred. If convicted on both counts, Daniels could be sentenced to a maximum 13 months in jail.
