An Iowa City man faces assault charges after allegedly assaulting a woman who has a no-contact order against him.

Officers were called to the FInkbine Lane residence of the victim for report of a violation of a no-contact order. 39-year-old Joel Goldsberry was found at the premises, in violation of the order. The two allegedly got into an argument, during which Goldsberry reportedly slapped the woman in the face.

Goldsberry has a prior domestic abuse conviction, and was charged with his second offense. He was also charged with assault committed against a person with a no contact order and cited for contempt for violating the order.

If convicted on all counts, Goldsberry could be sentenced to up to seven years in prison.
