An Iowa City man accused of running a multmillion dollar ring of unlicensed massage parlors where workers were required to have sex with customers has been fined by state regulators.
iowa Capital Dispatch reports Zhenshi Liu has been fined $2000 for practicing massage therapy without a license and an additional $1000 for employing an individual not licensed to practice massage therapy.
Liu and his wife, Junping Ren are accused of operating the Paradise Spas on Broadway Street and 1st Avenue, where they employed unlicensed female workers who, according to the criminal complaint, were required to provide sex acts to clients.
The women were allegedly paid $70 per hour for a massage, but had to pay $40 to Liu and an additional $10 was deducted as payment for room and board.
The couple face charges of Pimping, Prostitution, Pandering for Prostitution, Money Laundering, and Ongoing Criminal Conduct. A joint trial is scheduled for November 10th.
