A Texas man traveling through Iowa was stopped for speeding and now faces felony drug charges.
Just before Midnight on Saturday, 50-year-old Jonathon Brown of San Antonio was headed westbound on I80 when he was clocked going 80 miles and hour in a 55 miles an hour work zone near exit 242 in Coralville. A traffic stop was initiated, and a strong odor of marijuana was allegedly observed.
Brown reportedly stated he used marijuana earlier in the day. Field sobriety tests allegedly showed him to be impaired, and a probable cause search was conducted.
Numerous items of marijuana and THC products were located in the vehicle, measuring over 500 grams. Brown allegedly admitted that all the items belonged to him.
He was taken into custody and charged with OWI first offense, second offense Marijuana possession, and Failure to Affix Drug Stamp. If convicted on all counts, Brown could be sentenced to a maximum seven years in prison.
