Democratic candidate for governor Rob Sand has announced a plan to legalize, tax and regulate adult use cannabis.
In a release from Sand’s campaign office, Sand says Iowans are driving across state lines to purchase fully legalized and regulated cannabis in neighboring states, taking millions in revenue with them.
Among the points in Sand’s plan include legalizing and regulating cannabis similar to alcohol, supporting Iowa farmers by prioritizing grow licenses for small and midsize family farms while managing the number of licenses issued statewide, and reversing the prohibition on the sale of consumable hemp products.
Sand estimates his plan would create about 7000 jobs and expand opportunities for small business owners across Iowa.
