A Marion man being taken to the Johnson County Jail on a separate charge faces Harassment charges after allegedly threatening the officer taking him to the facility.
According to the criminal complaint, 36-year-old Charles Bever of Bloomington Road was in the back of an Iowa City Police squad car just after 5:30am when he made threatening statements. He reportedly stated he was going to un-cuff himself, and when the door opened, he was going to beat the officer up.
Bever allegedly said that he wished he’d knocked out, disarmed and shot the officer. He also allegedly made a vague threat, saying, “I get out tomorrow, just remember that, homeboy.”
Beyer was originally charged with Interference with Official Acts; he was sentenced to time served and fined $250. The Harassment charge comes with a possible jail sentence of up to a year. Beyer was released on his own recognizance pending arraignment.
