A West Liberty man faces a felony charge after an Iowa City bar fight that left one person injured.
21-year-old Brian Sagastume of Aidan Drive was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 12:15 Saturday morning. Iowa City Police say Sagastume assaulted another person outside Elray’s Live & Dive on Iowa Avenue just after 1:00 on the morning of April 24th. Sagastume allegedly punched the man in the face without provocation, knocking him unconscious. He then reportedly continued the assault by punching the man repeatedly in the face. The man suffered an orbital fracture.
The incident was captured on video, and Sagastume was identified by bar staff. He’s now charged with Willful Injury Causing Bodily Injury. If convicted, he faces up to five years in prison.
