The University of Iowa student who was shot in the head during the Ped Mall shooting in the early morning hours of April 19th is showing improvement.
According to a Go Fund Me post from her sister, Miranda Peters has been taken off a ventilator and is now breathing through her tracheostomy with oxygen support as needed.
Doctors say if she continues to show improvement she may be moved out of the ICU in the near future.
Janjay Peters added, “There is still a long road ahead, but moments like this give us hope. She is still fighting, and seeing her strength through all of this has been something I can’t even put into words.”
Donations have surpassed $198,000 and are still being accepted at gofundme.com.
The suspect., 17-year-old Damarion Jones of C Avenue in Cedar Rapids, is still at large.
