Newly filed state finance campaign reports indicate candidate Zach Lahn is the top fundraiser among Republicans running for Iowa governor.
While Congressman Randy Feenstra was seen as the front-runner in the primary, Lahn was the lead fundraiser through mid-May, amassing over $980.000. Over half came from donors who live outside Iowa.
Feenstra’s campaign reported having $586,000 in his fund. Less than a quarter of his fundraising has come from out of state.
The lone Democratic candidate for governor, Rob Sand, is sitting on nearly $9.7 million raised in the same period, with nearly half coming from Sand’s wife and her family.
Forecasters say the gubernatorial election either leans Republican or is a toss-up.
