Officials with the Dyersville property known as the “Field of Dreams” have announced they will honor longtime Hawkeye announcer Gary Dolphin by naming the press box at the new field after him.
Calling him a great supporter of the Field of Dreams movie site and an Iowa institution in his own right, board member Ron Kirchoff said Dolphin has brought people together through sports, community and storytelling.
Donations and pledges for the half-million dollar press box will be taken through August 13th, the day the Minnesota Twins and Philadelphia Phillies are scheduled to play at the field. It will be the first major league baseball game played there since 2022.
Kirchoff said they’re about halfway to their goal, and he’ll match contributions with a gift to Iowa Athletics in Dolphin’s honor.
