Iowa City police have arrested a suspect in a stabbing that occurred on Thursday afternoon just around the block from where a man had been shot earlier.
Officers were called to 163 S. Scott Blvd. just before 4pm on a report of an injured person. Upon arrival, officers located a single male adult suffering from two stab wounds, one of which was life threatening. The male was transported to the hospital by Johnson County paramedics for treatment of his injuries, and told officers that his roommate was the person who stabbed him.
On May 25th police interviewed the roommate, identified as 46-year-old Shevin “Squirt” Anderson. He told police that he and the victim had a verbal disagreement. The victim said that Anderson proceeded to grab a dagger and stab him twice.
Officers located the dagger during a search of the residence and the victim identified it as the weapon used to stab him. Anderson admitted that he was the only person at home with the victim at the time of the stabbing, but denied doing it.
Anderson was taken into custody and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and willful injury. If convicted on the charges, he could be sentenced to a maximum of 12 years in prison.
