A Davenport man was arrested Monday in Iowa City on a host of charges stemming from a driving incident in Coralville late last month.

According to police, a Coralville officer was stationed at 10th Street and Boston Way on June 26th at approximately 8:30pm when he was advised a black 2017 Ford Fusion was leaving Boston Way and the driver, who also owns the vehicle, is barred from driving. While checking the man’s drivers license picture, the Fusion drove past the officer, with the driver waving at him.

That man was identified as 27-year-old Ricky Morrise Jr. of Farnham Street in Davenport.

The officer attempted to stop Morrise Jr. on the outer ring road of the Coral Ridge Mall, turning on his squad car’s lights and siren. Morrise Jr. ignored them and accelerated to a high rate of speed, allegedly blowing through several mall parking lot stop signs, nearly hitting another vehicle in the process.

Morrise Jr. is barred from driving until May of 2023 for being a habitual offender.

A warrant was issued for his arrest and he was stopped Monday morning in the 200 block of South Dubuque Street in the same vehicle because of the active warrant.  He’s charged with Eluding, Driving while Barred as a Habitual Offender, Driving while Barred, reckless driving and driving while suspended. If convicted on the charges, Morrise could be sentenced to over five years in prison.
